Amazing Grace Foundation remembers the Passing of It’s Founding ResidentDenise Howell, the inspiration for the home’s start, was born on the 1st August 1992. She passed this life peacefully, on the 22nd of January 2004 at the Holberton Hospital. Baby Denise a severely autistic child, was living at the Holberton Hospital in the children’s ward. It was clear that she needed more support than most children – the very busy hospital staff could not meet her needs in the same way a home environment could. A group of concerned individuals arranged a meeting – and after brainstorming, the idea for the Amazing Grace Foundation was born. On June 30th 1998, after months of hard work and sweat, the home was officially opened. The foundation is registered as a private non-profit company, managed by a volunteer board of directors. Mr Clarence E Pilgrim, along with other board members, Mrs Joan Gomes & Mrs Jacky Butler spoke on behalf of the foundation at the funeral service. The funeral Service for Denise was held at the St. John’s Anglican Cathedral on Wednesday 4th February, at 2:30 am. Family, friends and well-wishers said farewell to Denise when she was laid to rest at the Valley cemetery, in the Southern part of Antigua.. |
