PRESS RELEASE 17th Jan 2005Health, Care & Welfare of Children with disabilities Workshop an overwhelming success. The Amazing Grace Foundation on the 13th of January held is first ever successful educational workshop on the Health, Care & Welfare of children with disabilities. Participants came from a variety of backgrounds to include parents, educators, staff of the Amazing Grace Home etc. According to the Chairman of the Foundation and “brain-child” of the workshop, Mr Clarence E Pilgrim he stated that “This educational workshop, was born out of the realization that mobilization and training of parents, care providers and educators is not only desirable for sustaining services to children with disabilities, but is extremely essential if our “special” children are to have a solid foundation to becoming productive contributing citizens in their own right - to our society.” Mr Pilgrim admitted that more persons than places were available for the workshop, and pledged to have a similar workshop within the next few months, because of the popular demand. Mr Pilgrim further stated his satisfaction at the high standard of presentations offered. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following outstanding speakers for their dynamic presentations:- Dr. Patrick Matthew – physiological needs of the disabled , Mrs Joan Gomes – social welfare background of the disabled, Mr. Gerald Price First aid & CPR, Dr. Thomas Martin –Medical explanation of disability, Dr Gregson Williams- Oral hygiene, Mr Avit laville – computer technology and the disabled and Rev. Edmond Greene – “disability in the religious context. Mr Pilgrim also praised the interest shown in the workshop by the presence and support given by three Ministers. They are, The Hon. Colin Derrick – Minister of Justice, Hon Hilston Baptist – Minister of Social transformation and the Hon. Winston Williams Minister of State with responsibility for Youth Affairs in the Ministry of Health. |
